Education

Religious School

Our religious school provides a comprehensive program of Jewish education for children ranging from kindergarten to confirmation. Classes are held in the Religious School Building adjacent to the synagogue on Sunday mornings from 9 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. The religious school enrollment has grown significantly in recent years and now numbers more than 130 students.Photo of a Torah

The Temple Educator, faculty and religious school committee seek to provide a quality Jewish education for our children. Developing the child's Jewish identity is the principal aim of the religious school. Holidays and customs are a central focus of the lower grades. Jewish history and Reform Jewish thought are explored in the upper grades. At all levels there is emphasis on the joy and importance of being Jewish in today's world.

Hebrew classes are offered on Sunday mornings for beginning and intermediate level students. More extensive Hebrew instruction is recommended for Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation.

Bar/Bat Mitzvah

The rabbi works extensively with each youngster and his/her family to maximize the experience, value and success of this important life-cycle event. Each Bar/Bat Mitzvah candidate must be a student in good standing in our religious school, promise to complete his/her Jewish studies through the tenth grade (Confirmation), and complete a course of our individualized instruction with the rabbi. Learn more about KKBE Bar/Bat Mitzvah procedures.

Confirmation

Confirmation takes place at the end of the tenth grade. Confirmands meet regularly with the rabbi to study what it means to be a modern Jew. Areas of study include theology, Reform Jewish philosophy, ancient and modern Jewish history. At the conclusion of the year, the Confirmands lead the congregation in a service created in part by the class, thereby affirming their faith in Judaism.

Life Long Learning

Jewish education is a life-long and a valued aspect of congregational life. Adult education is provided by sermons, Bible study classes, organized classes (arranged through the Lifelong Learning Committee) and discussion groups. Throughout the year, our Rabbi, Temple Educator, guest lecturers and congregants conduct adult education classes.
