We say it’s a mitzvah to participate in American democracy. We may even recite a blessing when we step into the polling place or voting booth. But are we actually commanded to vote? What about other praiseworthy, but not a look at specific responsa re: the “obligation” to vote, we’ll consider whether or not there is a difference between “paramount ethical obligations” and mitzvot.
