KKBE is sponsoring a trip to the Rosenwald School in St. George, SC, to meet with those who can share the school’s history and are responsible for the restoration of this historic school.

Julius Rosenwald’s life was changed when he met Booker T. Washington, the well known black educator. Washington introduced Rosenwald, the President of Sears , Roebuck and Company to the deplorable conditions of African American schools in the South. In just twenty years, Rosenwald helped to financially support the building of more than 5300 well-designed and better equipped a southern schools. But Rosenwald had one important condition: each community had to raise funds to receive the school. This is also the story of black men and women committed to a better lives for their children.
